Working from the Beach in PDC: What You Actually Need to Make It Work
Everyone has the same image in their head: laptop open, feet in the sand, ocean breeze, Caribbean blue in the background.
It sounds perfect. And it can be β but only if you're prepared. Without the right setup, the real experience is a screen you can't see in the sun, a keyboard full of sand, a dead battery at the 40-minute mark and hands sticky with sunscreen.
The difference between an epic afternoon and a disaster isn't luck. It's preparation.
What you can't leave behind
#1
A high-capacity portable battery
There are no outlets at the beach. Maximum screen brightness plus the heat drains your laptop much faster than normal. Bring a power bank of at least 20,000 mAh β solar-powered is even better.

#2
Water β twice as much as you think
Two liters for drinking, plus a small bottle just to rinse your hands. Sunscreen plus sand make touching your keyboard a mess. A dedicated hand-rinsing bottle makes a huge difference and is one of the things you'll be gladdest you packed.
#3
SPF 50+ water-resistant sunscreen
UV in the Caribbean reaches index 11 in summer. SPF 50+ minimum, reapply every 2 hours, and go mineral if you're getting in the water β PDC's cenotes and reefs will thank you.

#4
A large, well-anchored beach umbrella
Not just to avoid sunburn β you need shade to see your screen. Without it, working at the beach is simply impossible. Look for one with a good sand anchor system and enough diameter to cover your gear too.
#5
Waterproof laptop sleeve
Sand + salt + Caribbean humidity is the most lethal combination for electronics that exists. A laptop-specific dry bag or waterproof sleeve is a mandatory investment. Sand gets into everything and is very hard to remove afterward.

Noise-cancelling headphones
The waves are relaxing until you have an important call or need to concentrate on something complex. Good active noise-cancelling headphones are the difference between real productivity and expensive beach decoration.

Security for your belongings
With headphones on and in full focus mode, it's easy for someone to walk by and grab your phone or wallet. Simple solution: a small zippered pouch tied with a cord to your chair. Nothing sophisticated β just don't leave things loose.

A table. Seriously.
Working with a laptop on your legs or on a towel is uncomfortable, overheats your equipment and destroys your back in under 30 minutes. A lightweight foldable beach table completely transforms the experience.
